The ongoing saga of Kenora’s self-cleaning washroom may soon be coming to an end.
The self-contained washroom was put in place last December but hasn’t been used since.
Director of Engineering and Infrastructure Greg Breen says they should be uploading some new programming and hopefully it will be ready to use soon.
“We’re very optimistic and hopeful that the testing comes out successful and we’re getting the alarm system notifications that we need,” Breen told city council this week.
“If somebody tries to use the unit overnight, for example.”
Breen adds part of the delay in getting it ready was that they had to wait for updated software to be installed.
“There are programming uploads that are taking place, and our facilities department has scheduled another round of testing.”
Breen says it took six weeks to get a meeting with the company that manufactures the self-cleaning washroom, and they are now ironing out any problems that have been found.
