Skateboarding to support mental health

The 6th Annual Sam Bush Memorial Skateboarding Competiton took place Sunday afternoon.

Sam’s mother, Tammy Bush says it’s important to keep the lines of communication open.

“If you are struggling, talk to someone and if that someone can’t be a parent, or a sibling, or a friend, then call someone who doesn’t know you and just get it out,” Bush told the skateboarders and those in attendance at the skate park, prior to the competition.

Bush adds if you are feeling depressed or need help, reach out.

“Because the world is a better place with you in it and you will never know your potential until you keep living every day.  Not all days are unicorn days, but those unicorn days will come.”

Sam died by suicide in June of 2019, and the skateboarding competition has been held every year since in his memory.

This year the competition was supported by the Canadian Mental Health Association office in Kenora, Triple Play, Boardanyone and the OPP.
