All they need now is cold weather and Central Community Club is ready for skating and hockey this winter.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on Friday for the new outdoor rink.

Mayor Andrew Poirier says the facility had financial help from all levels of government.

“This is a testament to partnerships again,” points out Poirier after the ribbon cutting.

“I talk about that all the time.  This is how we get things done in the community. We had both upper tier levels of government help fund the facility and boards and retrofitting of the rest of the property.”

The Light Up Central Committee also did its own fundraising to make the rink a reality.

Poirier adds that much of the community club was finished last year, including the playground and outdoor rink.

“There were still some deficiencies with the building, which didn’t allow it to re-open, so it’s pretty hard to have the ice here and have no building for people to put their skates on.”

The federal, provincial and municipal levels of government contributed to the cost of the $1.6 million facility
