Council receives a capital works update

All of the paving work in the City of Kenora has been completed before the snow flies.

In his update to council this week Director of Engineering and Infrastructure Greg Breen says the warm fall has been a help.

Breen adds the last piece of paving on Railway Street was completed this week.

In the meantime, Breen says they have received a report on one of the roads that flooded a couple of years ago north of the by-pass.

“I had stated the Essex Road grade raise drilling report was due in November, and we did receive that last week, and staff is just reviewing i ,” Breen told council.

“They are working with the contractor to get that final report available, so we can move into a potential plan to raise the grade on the Essex Road.”

Breen adds the other engineering report that have received is on the Keewatin Channel Bridge.

“There are a few steel members on the bridge that do need to be replaced.  So, they are just completing the final load analysis now that tell them what members we can take out and what members can put back in and in what sequence while traffic remains open on the bridge.”

Breen says the bridge will be wrapped and painted next year at a cost of about $4.3 million.
