Rental and service fee increases being proposed

Kenora city council is leaving no stone unturned to try and generate more revenue.

Each department has been asked to look at increasing rentals rates or service fees

Director of Economic Development and Tourism Stace Gander says one area they are looking at is introducing rental feels once again for the Jarnel Contracting Pavilion.

“The suggestion here is to reinstate them back to previous COVID rates,” Gander told a council budget meeting on Tuesday.

“There is a potential to generate an additional $20,000 of revenue, if you assume the volume of activities is the same as 2019.”

Gander adds the city has waived any rental fees at the Pavilion since COVID.

“There is a suggestion that maybe we bring that in over a period three-years to minimize the financial impact, because I think there is a tipping point when you start charging all of a sudden for things that weren’t being charged for.”

Rental for the Pavilion would be $420 for a half day and $1,050 for a full day.

That’s just one of the rental fee increases the city is looking at, along with a whole series of service fee increases.
