Dryden city council supports a 6.3 percent increase in sewer and water rates

It looks like the City of Dryden will stick with a 6.3 percent increase in sewer and water rates next year.

Council debated the issue a length last week.

Treasurer Steven Lansdell-Roll says this at least gives staff direction and can start planning for 2025.

“That helps from a budget perspective for sure, in that, at minimum staff can plan for the $340,000 increase in revenues, and how we get there, we still have some time,” Lansdell-Roll told Dryden city council at their open meeting.

Mayor Jack Harrison says they need the money to ensure they can fix up their aging underground infrastructure.

“We need to build the resources so we’re not stranding our population.  We can do the planning ahead so that we can always guarantee clean water for residences and be able to repair things.  So, I’m supportive of the 6.3 (percent increase).

Council also debated a long time about whether there should be a separate rate for people living in multi-residential buildings.

Another report on that will come forward at their next meeting in December.
