The City of Dryden plans to own and operate the whole Sandy Beach Golf Club.
That includes the clubhouse.
CAO Roger Nesbitt says it makes sense for them to purchase the clubhouse instead of leasing it.
“There are definite benefits to purchasing the existing facility, you know, primarily the facility would be ready to go for use in the 2025 season with the pro-shop and the rest of the space ready to be utilized again,” Nesbitt explained to city council recently.
He adds there are benefits to owning the building.
“The other significant benefit is the financial benefit. The city would be able to spend the least amount of money, continue with usage of the facility right away and then over time making the required repairs to the facility.”
The city is proposing to spend $600,000 to buy the clubhouse, but Nesbitt says renovations could cost anywhere from one million to $3.6 million.
The other option is to build a brand-new clubhouse.
City treasurer Steven Lansdell-Roll says the golf course did not make any money last year, and there were only 110 memberships, about 100 less than budgeted for.
