The City of Kenora is planning to add to its Senior Leadership Team.
City council is looking hiring a General Manager of Information Technology.
Councillor Graham Chaze thinks this a position the city badly needs.
“I think if they (taxpayers) knew what we knew, and had the information we had access to, they would support this decision,” Chaze told council at a recent budget meeting.
“This is no disrespect for anyone not supporting this, but this, for me, is a no brainer. It’s a good investment.”
Chaze believes this is a position the city should have had a couple of years ago.
“Recognizing our vulnerabilities. How complex our organization is and how archaic some of the systems are. We’re dealing with systems that are decades old. We’re hanging on by a thread.”
The city is setting aside $161,000 in the budget for the position, which would account for 0.52 percent of city’s overall expenses.
Council has been told the the IT manager could save the city money because they have a number of projects that would have to be contracted out if they didn’t have that position.
