The federal Conservtives are demanding Parliament reconvene after former U.S. President Donald Trump proposed a 25 percent tariff on Canadian goods starting February 1.
Kenora MP Eric Melillo blames Prime Minister Justin Trudeau for proroguing Parliament, delaying crucial measures like border controls and tariff retaliation.
“We are calling on Justin Trudeau to reopen Parliament so we can secure our borders and stop the flow of drugs and other illegal activity, “says Melillo.
“And vote on an economic plan, that would include retaliatory tariffs.”
Melillo says Canada can’t pass measures like trade retaliation or border controls while Parliament remains shut.
“This is certainly not the time for Parliament to be on pause. We need to be back in the house, back at work, ensuring we are working to approve an economic plan.”
Melillo says Trudeau must act now to address border issues and protect Canada’s economy.
