A Thunder Bay based mining company director faces a hefty fine for evading taxes.

Henry Grant Wetelainen was fined earlier this week and was also given a conditional sentence of two years less a day.

Court heard that between 2009 and 2011, Wetelainen’s company 1584859 Ontario Inc., which he was the sole director and shareholder of, failed to file corporate income tax returns.

That amounted to $367,261 in taxable income.

He also failed to file GST returns and did not remit just over $46,123 in GST he had collected.

During this time, Wetelainen had an income of $576,601, but reported no income for his personal returns.

In addition to the court imposed fine, he has to pay back the full amount of the taxes owing, plus interest.
