Fednor is providing $1.7 million to 10 organizations in northern Ontario for outdoor winter tourism.

Sunset Trail Riders Snowmobile Club is getting $175,000 to purchase equipment and help create a new trail.

This project will enable the development of a new 79-kilometre trail connecting STR’s existing network with Oak Island, Minnesota,

The funding will also allow the snowmobile club to acquire new trail grooming equipment and the installation of new way-finding signage.

It will also help STR to replace and improve three warming shelters on the existing trail network.

-The Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs is getting almost $168,000 to replace a trail bridge near Dryden.

The OFSC says the bridge is critical piece of the Northwestern Wilderness Loop.

Not only will a new bridge be installed, but there will be expanded decking and guard rails.

-The Town of Sioux Lookout is getting $180,000 to help develop the community’s Tourism Diversification and Infrastructure Enhancement Study.

Fednor add the study will create an action plan to help the community meet its local tourism industry objectives.

It will also identify local and regional tourism partners.

-The Township of Sioux Narrows-Nestor Falls is getting one of the biggest grants of almost $250,000 to help develop a multi-use, all-season trail network.

The trail system will include over seven kilometers of accessible trails, as well as a skills park, way-finding signage, a dedicated parking area, and bicycle racks.

Fednor says the trail will create potential partnerships with local and regional businesses and neighbouring communities.

-The Atikokan Economic Development Corporation is getting over $122,000 to help hire a tourism development coordinator/economic development officer for a three-year period.

The position will help the Town of Atikokan implement its Tourism Atikokan Strategic Plan.

This is a three-year initiative to build up the community’s all-season tourism industry.
