The Dryden OPP now has a presence in Dryden High School.
The OPP’s Adam Illman says they have a dedicated Community Officer at the high school.
“We would like the officer to handle most calls for service that occur at the school to assist the front line, but also most importantly develop strong relationships with the students and staff,” says Illman.
Illman adds the officer will have a number of other roles.
“Any time there is grounds for charges or anything like that, utilize the diversion and restorative justice processes, and certainly to be participating daily in after school programs, Monday to Friday, and then create a robust summer program for underprivileged youth. Constable Ron Fults of the Dryden Detachment will be an incredible asset and resource for the evolution of this important program”
The Keewatin-Patricia District School Board and the Dryden OPP say they have been working for the past year on the initiative.
“KPDSB and the OPP are committed to supporting youth engagement in school and the community and building positive relationships between students and law enforcement” said Christy Radbourne, Director of Education, KPDSB.
