Charges laid after Treaty 3 Police arrest impaired boater

A 32-year-old man faces a number of charges after a boat was taken without permission on the Wabauskang First Nation.

On Tuesday Treaty Three Police received a report that a community boat had been taken without permission and two jerry cans of gas were stolen from a private residence.

The suspect was seen driving in a dangerous manner on Wabauskang Lake and drinking alcohol.

Police eventually tracked down the boat and arrested the operator at boat landing, where he was found to be impaired.

He been charged with taking a vessel without consent, possession of property obtained by crime, dangerous operation and impaired driving.

He’s currently being held in custody due to concerns about safety to the community and the repetitive nature of the alleged offenses.
