Summer forecast: hotter and drier than normal

The Weather Network is out with it’s summer forecast.

Rachel Modestino is a meteorologist with the Weather Network says we can look forward to hotter and drier conditions than normal.

“For the Kenora region, Dryden and even into Thunder Bay, projections are that we’re going to be well above normal, with several heat wave events, and even some extreme heat days, with the heat dome bringing all of those conditions,” explains Modestino.

Modestino says El Nino and La Nina won’t affect weather patterns this summer, but a system over the central US will.

“We’re looking at the main driver of the summer being a heat dome across the central US.  But it will more often present in the southern prairies and northwestern Ontario this summer, as opposed to other parts of Ontario.

Modestino adds that the summer forecast won’t likely help with the forest fire situation, but it should be very pleasant for those who like hot weather.
