The Kenora Pride Flag has been raised in front of city hall.
About 50 people attended the flag-raising ceremony Tuesday afternoon.
Kaddie Vaughan is chair of Kenora Pride and says they have a lot of events to mark their 10th anniversary.
“It will be a busy one, but it will be full of really incredible events, because it’s our 10th year this year, and we really want to celebrate in a big way,” says Vaughan.
“We’re so appreciative for all the love and support we’ve had from our sponsors and our community partners and as well as from the community in general.”
Vaughan points out there still a lot of hurdles for the Pride community to overcome.
“This amazing work is still so necessary today, especially now with the socio-political climate in North America and around the world. There are so many disadvantages to being a member of the of 2SLGTBQIA+ community. There are still a lot of hate crimes that are committed.”
They add they have a number of events in June, especially towards the end of the month, with the Pride Parade, a community barbeque, drag shows and a trivia night.
