A new system is being developed to alert patients when they have their medical appointment.
Hospitals across the region are a part of the Central Waitlist Management Project.
Sean Hailstone, Director of Diagnostic Imaging at Lake of the Woods District Hospital says they have developed “Opt In” which allows patients to get notification of their appointment by text or email.
“It’s been in the works for quite some time now,” explains Hailstone.
“We didn’t have the infrastructure previously to do it, but now we’ve had some outside help from some other companies to help us build the infrastructure and work with other hospitals in the region to get this off the ground.”
Hailstone adds that part of the goal is to cut down on the number of missed appointments.
“We will inundate you with reminders. The reason we’re doing that is we’re trying to eliminate no-shows and reduce the no-shows we have for appointments and reduce the no-shows we have in diagnostic imaging and in the future, surgical services, when they go live.”
Hailstone says the Central Waitlist Management Project should be active by the fall, with more medical appointments added all the time.
