Dryden OPP see an increase in crime in 2024

The Dryden OPP say crime was up last year.

The OPP delivered their annual report to city council this week.

Staff Sergeant Mitch Davis while drug crime was down, violent and property crime were up.

“In 2024, we’re 9.7 percent up on Criminal Code, non-traffic charges,” Davis told Dryden city council this week.

“So that’s including every charge under the Criminal Code other than Dangerous Driving and Impaired Driving.”

Davis adds that even though drug charges were down in 2024, their Drug Unit was still busy.

“Down 9.5 percent.  I attribute that to our Drug Unit.  They are extremely active within the community and the region itself.  They probably do a warrant once a week, which is a high number of warrants.”

On the traffic side, Davis says there were 73 Dangerous Driving or Impaired Driving charges and one fatality in 2024 in the City of Dryden.
