OPP and SIU investigate fatal shooting on Deer Lake

A 45-year-old man from the Deer Lake First Nation is dead after being shot by the Nishnawbe Aski Police.

Both the Ontario Special Investigations Unit and the OPP are looking into the shooting.

The incident started around 1:30 Tuesday afternoon when officers went to a house in the community with an arrest warrant.

When they got there, a man fled from the home.

One of the officers discharged his firearm at the man.

Police provided first aid and transported him to the nursing station were he was pronounced dead.

The OPP are asking anyone with information or video taken in the area of the shooting between 1pm and 2 pm to contact them at 1-888-310-1122.

As far as the SIU investigation goes, two investigators and one forensic investigator have been assigned to the case.
