A big weekend for the Municipality of Red Lake.

The community is celebrating the 100th anniversary of the discovery of gold there.

Red Lake mayor Fred Mota says they’ve organized a couple of days of celebrations starting tonight.

“We have many, many event planned on the 25th and 26th,” enthuses Mota.

“We have provincial cabinet ministers attending too.  We have a wine and cheese opening at the Heritage Center then we’re doing a community event over at the Legion.  There will be mine tours and there’s actually a unique museum at the west end of Red Lake that you can only get to by boat.  So, we’re going doing boat tours out to there.”

Opening ceremonies will take place at 11:00 Saturday morning at the Phil Vinet Centennial Park.

There will also be a baseball tournament, community breakfast, a barbeque lunch and a pig roast for supper on Saturday.

On Saturday night, there will be a drone display, featuring 250 drones at 11 pm.
