“The mind messes up more shots than the body.” –Tommy Bolt
As I typically do, when I get up in the morning, I do a quick scan of the skyline and then focus my bleary eyes on the outdoor thermometer. +9°C. I don’t recall having those temperatures in quite some time. Are the dog days of summer behind us? Our house windows had a glaze of fog on them and the spiderwebs on the railing outside were outlined in dew. On my travels to the golf course, I drove through patches of fog as it lingered atop of hayfields or waterways. Six weeks and five days ago it was the summer solstice. It is now six weeks and five days to the fall equinox. Basically, it is the exact middle of summer and there is still plenty of golf left even if the day starts off with an extra layer of clothing!
It was another gorgeous day at Beauty Bay. 72 members and 7 guests attempted great things. There was a modicum of success. Two teams came in with excellent scramble scores of -4. A count back is used to declare one victorious team. Marvin, a.k.a. The Numbers Guy goes back to the most difficult holes as indicated by the handicap assigned to each hole. The lower the number the more difficult the hole. In this case, the victors had a birdie to the other team’s par on a hole number 17, the second most difficult hole on the back nine. Number 15 has been deemed by the WHS (World Handicap System) as the most difficult hole on the back nine. Both teams tied this hole with pars.
You will note that the name Dan Reynard appears multiple times in today’s awards section. I would like to point out at this time that no bribe has been offered me and that Mr. Reynard’s outstanding success today is legitimate. To find out who the other victors were, keep reading.
