Another significant funding announcement for the Pikangikum First Nation.

It will be getting just over $17 million from the federal government to build a new Cultural Learning and Community Center.

The building will house not only a daycare, but adult education and skills training programs and provide a wide range of recreational opportunities for local residents.

The center will be constructed to meet zero-carbon standards.

That includes geo-thermal heating, energy efficient lighting and solar panels on the roof.

The funding comes from the federal government’s Green and Inclusive Community Buildings program.
