The Kenora and Lake of the Woods Regional Community Foundation is celebrating 20 years of service to the community.
A special gala was held Tuesday night at the Lake of the Woods Museum.
More than 150 people attended.
Lynn McAughey is the executive director, and they have raised millions of dollars to distribute to local charities.
“We brought together assets up to almost $10 million…our endowment fund sits at that amount,” points out McAughey.
“Every year we grant the interest out from that. This year we’re here to celebrate and announce the giving of $500,000 in our community to local charities.”
McAughey says the gala was their way of saying thanks.
“Many of these people were involved since the very beginning and have been involved in all of our local charities or our partner agencies or perhaps even as donors or local businesses that have been fundraising for us as well. So, we brought them here together to say thanks.”
The Community Foundation says it has donated over $5 million over the past 20 years to over 70 local charities.
