FireRangers have been assigned to two fires of note in the region.
Thunder Bay Fire 21 is burning near Batwing Lake roughly 62 kilometres west of Thunder Bay.
The fire is roughly 20 hectares in size, and is not under control.
Five FireRanger crews assisted by two belly-tank equipped helicopters are working to establish hoselines along the fire’s perimeter. Recent rainfall has assisted their efforts.
Nipigon Fire 43 is burning roughly 18 kilometres northwest of Nipigon.
The fire’s size has increased to 5.6 hectares since it was confirmed on October 5.
The fire is currently not under control and two FireRanger crews assisted by two helicopters are working to combat the blaze. Recent rainfall has assisted efforts with this fire as well.
Meanwhile, a new fire has popped up in the region.
Nipigon Fire 44 is burning near Eureka Lake roughly 103 kilometres east of Longlac.
The 4.8-hectare fire is currently not under control.
There are currently 13 active forest fires in the region. Three fires are not under control and 10 fires are being observed.
Due to the recent rainfall, the wildland fire hazard is predominantly low across the region.
There are still patches of moderate hazard along the International Border in the Fort Frances, Rainy River, and Kenora areas.
