The demand for the food bank in Kenora continues to grow.
Community Ministries Manager Stewart Walter says they are seeing people with jobs needing their service.
“It’s not because they are lazy or don’t want to work, it’s because they are not making enough,” explains Walter.
“They are having to choose between putting gas in the car, or buying groceries, paying rent, or making sure there is enough sent in their children’s lunches.”
Walter adds the demand for their services continues to grow and they just can’t keep up.
“We’ve also had to cut down from two visits a month to one visit. We just don’t have the food on the shelves to support that. It’s a lot of new people all the time. There’s at least one or two a week.
Starting yesterday, Walter says they began the intake process for their Christmas Hampers.
He says the demand for their food hampers continues to grow as well, with about 250 hampers handed out last year alone.
