An Indiginous anti-nuclear group in northwestern Ontario says it’s disappointed by the decision of the Wabigoon Lake Obiway Nation’s decision to continue on in the nuclear waste disposal process.
The group is called Niniibawtamin Anishinaabe Aki, and represents the Treaty #3, Treaty #9 and Robinson Treaty territories.
It says the Nuclear Waste Management Organization has spent massive amounts of money to persuade communities to be willing hosts.
The group adds that while Wabigoon has the right to decide, the disposal of nuclear waste disposal in our region exceeds the sovereignty of any individual First Nation.
It believes the decision regarding whether or not to support the NWMO’s plan should involve all potentially affected communities.
Niniibawtamin Anishinaabe Aki says it is disappointed with how nuclear waste discussions are unfolding in the region.
