
Some help for municipalities in the region facing large increases in the policing budget next year.
The provincial government says it will be providing financial relief for small, rural and northern municipalities to help offset the increased cost of policing.
77 million dollars has been promised.
That will be a relief for the Town of Sioux Lookout, which is facing a 61 percent increase, totaling more than a million dollars.
The City of Dryden is looking a 19 percent increase, the City of Kenora and 37 percent increase and the Town of Fort Frances and 25 increase.
The funding will include a 3.75 percent bill reduction in 2023, and 44 percent reduction in 2023 for overtime costs and a 10 percent reduction in the OPP bill for 2025.
The province also says it will continue its annual 125-million-dollar transfer payment program for court security and prisoner transport.
