
It was a clean sweep for the St. Thomas Aquinas Saints, and the Dryden Eagles took three of four games from Beaver Brae in boys’ basketball and girls’ volleyball on Thursday.
The Saints boys’ teams had little trouble with the Pelican Falls winning their games easily.
The TA senior girls’ volleyball team won in three straight sets, while the Saints junior teams topped Pelican Falls two sets to one.
In NorWOSSA “AA” action, the Eagles almost swept the Broncos.
In the senior boys’ basketball game, Beaver Brae took an early lead, but Dryden managed a 4-point lead at the half.
The Eagles outscored Kenora 16-6 in the third frame and cruised to a 60-44 final.
Val Adrian Naybe had 16 and Emmerson Moir 15 points for Dryden to lead the way.
In junior boy’s action, after a tight first half, the Eagles held the Broncos scoreless in the third quarter while pouring in 12 points of their own on the way to a 36-25 win.
Ronin Gamble’s 16 points paced the group, Zach Robinson had another 9 points.
In junior girls’ volleyball, the Eagles took the first set 25-16 before Kenora tied the contest with a 25-19 win of their own. The deciding third set went into extras, with Dryden earing the 16-14 win.
In senior girl’s play, the Eagles dropped their second match of the season, in straight sets to Kenora.
Scores were 25-16, 25-18 and 25-12.
