Town of Ignace to conduct housing and airport studies

The Town of Ignace is going to conduct a couple of studies in advance of a deep underground nuclear waste repository coming to the area.

One will be looking at the town’s short- and long-term housing needs.

The other will examine if there is enough demand to reopen the Ignace Municipal Airport.

Mayor Kim Baigrie says Explorer Solutions will be conducting both studies.

“There have been studies completed in the past, which include many hours of preparation for the Township of Ignace in both our quest to secure this project but for the overall future or our community,” says Baigrie in a news release.

“We appreciate the hard work that has been completed to date and the initiation and launch of these two new studies will be building upon and incorporating elements of those foundational efforts from the past into the work that lies ahead for the future.  It is critical that we have up to date and relevant information that the consultants can utilize through engagement with the community, discussion with relevant stakeholders, governments of Ontario and Canada and other community groups.

“Ultimately, this feedback will come back to our Council with sound recommendations to analyze and move forward in support of this incredibly important development in our area”.

The Nuclear Waste Management Organization has chosen the Revell site for construction of the facility.
