It could be 7 to 10 years before a new hospital is up and running in Kenora.
Property has been purchased, but the province still has to give the go ahead for Phase 2 of the project.
Cheryl O’Flaherty is CEO and President of Lake of the Woods District Hospital and sits on the All-Nations Hospital Board says Phase 2 includes detailed design and construction plans.
“The typical process is usually somewhere around 36 months,” explains O’Flaherty.
“It can be shorter, depending on the model and that’s something that would be decided by the Ministry of Health capital branch and Infrastructure Ontario.”
O’Flaherty adds they finished the first phase of planning back in September, now it’s just a matter for the province to give them the go ahead.
“Looking for that to be approved at any moment and then from there we begin the next phase, which is Phase 2, which is detailed design and moving into construction tender documentations.”
O’Flaherty says the provincial election will again further delay approval of their phase one plans by several weeks.
