Prepare for heavy snow and hazardous travel in parts of NW Ontario

Travel could get dicey in parts of the region with a messy mix of rain and snow on the way.

Environment Canada has issued weather alerts for some Northwestern Ontario locations for Monday morning into the evening.

There’s a snowfall warning north and west of Thunder Bay, including Atikokan, Shebandowan and Shabaqua. As much as 25 cm is in the forecast some areas.

A winter weather travel advisory is in effect for east of Fort Frances and Dryden, including Ignace and Seine River Village. The forecaster says rain will change to heavy snow Monday morning with up to 10 cm.

“Areas inland from Lake Superior and areas of higher elevation are most likely to see significant accumulations. Areas closer to Lake Superior may see rain continue through the afternoon.”

Expect reduced visibility and slippery, slushy roads in some areas of the province as conditions worsen.
