Magnus Theatre’s annual school tour has received a boost from the provincial government.
The organization is receiving $295,200 over three years through the Ontario Trillium Foundation.
“(The funding is) gonna really help to significantly expand the reach and impact of our theatre for young audiences school tour,” explained Education Director Jordan Blaxill. “What this funding will enable us to do will be to bring live professional theatre to thousands more students across northwestern Ontario’s rural and remote communities.
“Many of whom have never had the opportunity to experience the magic of performing arts through thought-provoking productions and interactive workshops will not only entertain, but also spark creativity, build confidence and create important conversations. Teachers consistently tell us how these performances become springboards for classroom discussions and creative projects that continue long after we’ve left the school.”
OTF Grow grants help non-profit organizations, Indigenous communities, and small municipalities across the province expand the reach of programs and services that are already making a positive impact.
“These OTF grants represent more than just funding,” explained Thunder Bay Atikokan MPP, Kevin Holland. “They are an investment in the future of our children, our cultures, and the vibrancy of our communities.”
“Today’s grant recipients exemplify that mission, bringing live professional theatre to schools and communities, particularly in the remote regions of northwestern Ontario, the program enriches the lives of students, ignites imaginations and makes the arts accessible, regardless of geography.”
Applicants can apply for funding of $100,000 to $600,000 over two or three years to expand, improve or adapt an existing program or service.
