Kenora OPP sees success in recruiting new officers

The Kenora OPP is trying a different tactic for recruiting new officers.

They are looking west…not to southern Ontario for help.

Acting inspector Jim Neild says they’ve had good success recruiting from their neighboring provinces.

“We’ve done a lot of recruiting in Manitoba…even as far as Alberta and Saskatchewan…we’re having positive feedback from that,” Neild told city council recently.

“We’re getting recruits…we are getting a large number of recruits.”

Neild says they’ll have as many as 10 new recruits this year, which is a good problem to have.

“It’s going to take time to get those recruits up to speed.  I can tell you right now, we’ve got two in February, two in May and currently six coming in August.  That’s a lot of recruits coming at once because you need to have a coach officer to coach each one of those recruits for a year.”

Neild is hoping that by recruiting from the western provinces, officers will be closer to family, as opposed to recruiting from southern Ontario.
