Many flags are lowered to half-mast on Monday in recognition of the National Day of Mourning.

The day commemorates workers who have died, been injured or suffered illness from work-related incidents.

It also honours the families and friends who have been affected by these tragedies.

Here in Ontario, a total of 264 workers were killed and nearly 2,700 suffered critical injuries in 2022.

Ceremonies are taking place in several communities throughout the province on Monday.

In northwestern Ontario, a ceremony will take place at the First Wesley United Church in Thunder Bay at 6 p.m.
