Donald Trump says Mark Carney will visit the White House within the week.
The Prime Minister won a Liberal minority government after Monday’s election.
President Trump says Carney was a very nice gentleman over the phone.
“I think we’re going to have a great relationship. He called me up yesterday. He said, ‘Let’s make a deal,'” Trump told reporters on Wednesday.
On Tuesday, the Prime Minister’s office said the two would meet soon but did not give a timeline.
Carney’s campaign largely focused on the U.S. trade war and Trump’s 51st state threats.
Trump says he was hated by both Carney and Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre.
“It was the one that hated Trump, I think, the least that won. I actually think the Conservative hated me much more than the so-called Liberal,” said Trump.
“Couldn’t have been nicer. Then I congratulated him.”
