The provincial government will help establish clinics as training grounds for new doctors and other medical professionals.
Three hundred million dollars is being set aside to build or expand 17 clinics established in conjunction with McMaster University, NOSM University, Queen’s University, Toronto Metropolitan University, University of Ottawa, University of Toronto, and Western University.
Health Minister Sylvia Jones says they will provide more people access to primary care.
“These clinics, which include the two primary care teaching clinics at the new medical school…in Brampton, will combine direct patient care with hands-on learning to connect an additional 300,000 people to primary care,” says Jones.
Nolan Quinn, Minister of Colleges, Universities, Research Excellence and Security, says the clinic will help doctors prepare with hands-on learning.
“These clinics equip the next generation of doctors, nurses and physician assistants with real-world experience, under the supervision of our outstanding medical experts,” says Quinn.
“And with that mentorship and experience, our medical students can confidently provide the best care to the people of Ontario, both inside the clinic and in their future careers.”
The exact locations of the clinics are to be announced this summer.
