Parts of the region are experiencing smokey conditions.

It’s as a result of a wildfire burning north of Kenora near the community of Whitedog.

Fire Information officer Chris Marchand says the blaze started out as a small 0.5-hectare forest fire.

“It can be attributed to this new fire, Kenora Fire #14 which was discovered on Thursday afternoon,” explains Marchand.

“Despite air attack from four water bombers through the afternoon on Thursday, that fire has continued to grow in size, pushed by strong southerly winds.”

Marchand says at last word, the first had grown to 250 hectares in size.

“Today the wind has shifted, to come from the northwest, which is expected to change the direction of the fire’s advance in a southeasterly direction, and air attack has resumed with water bombers today.”

Marchand says the fire hazard is high with pockets of extreme in the Kenora area.
