The province is providing $22 million to help municipalities and emergency response centers with the transition to the new 9-1-1 communications system.
It’s called Next generation 9-1-1 and moves the dispatch centers from analog technology to digital.
Many services have already adopted the new technology, but the funding will help centers that don’t have Next Generation 9-1-1.
The funding is being extended for one year.
Once fully implemented, Next Generation 9-1-1 will make it easier to provide additional details about emergency situations, including video and using texts.
