MP’s have returned to Ottawa for the first session after the federal election.
Kenora-Kiiwetinoong MP Eric Melillo says he’s not sure if the next session will be any more civil than the last one.
“It remains to be seen,” says Melillo.
“I think we’re going to have to work together to keep this parliament going. I think there will be some disagreements, that’s the nature of the business, but I’m just looking forward to getting back to work and holding the government to account.”
Melillo was elected to a third term in office in the April 28th election and was one of 144 Conservative MPs elected.
“We’re all coming to this place, all MPs from different parties, all with the best intentions, all wanting to improve our country, but we have some very different ideas on how to do that and that leads to some very passionate and spirited debates, which is a healthy part of our democracy, so I think that’s going to continue.”
The Throne Speech was read today, and the new session will start on Wednesday.
