Dale Munro
1955 – 2025
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Dale Munro on Monday, May 19th, 2025.
Dale was the beloved husband of Betty Wires, a devoted father to Kyle (Kristen) and Josh (Rasna), and a cherished grandad to Hazel, who affectionately called him “Grand-Dale.”
Born in 1955 in Kelwood, Manitoba, Dale was the son of Boyd and Rovenah Munro and one of eight children. The Munro family were farmers in the area dating back to 1913.
He left Kelwood to study forestry at Lakehead University in Thunder Bay. After graduating, he moved to Dryden to work for the Ministry of Natural Resources, where he met his wife, Betty. They married in 1979 and later built their family home on Longbow Lake, just outside Kenora. There, they raised their sons and built a beautiful life—swimming off the dock, enjoying fires by the lake, walking their dogs, and exploring the surrounding forests and lakes.
Dale worked in the forestry industry in Kenora from the 1980s onward, serving as a woodlands manager in various capacities. He witnessed many changes in the industry and remained passionate about his work throughout his career.
Known for his quiet nature, Dale had a kind heart, a generous spirit, and a warm sense of humor. He was an active and dedicated member of the Kenora community—coaching his sons’ hockey teams, serving on charitable boards, and being a long-time member of the Lake of the Woods Racquet Club. Alongside Betty, he supported the local arts community and the Lake of the Woods Hospital Foundation.
Dale is survived by his wife Betty; sons Kyle (Kristen) and Josh (Rasna); granddaughter Hazel; and his siblings, Louise (Bruce Burnett), Eric (Lavonne), Janice (Jack Follows), Wade (Janet), Nadine (Gordon Brody) and Holly (Calvin Hay) along with many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents Boyd and Rovenah and his sister Heather.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, June 1, 2025 at 1:00 pm at Brown Funeral Home & Cremation Centre with Pastor Cathy Giroux officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Lake of the Woods Hospital Foundation, or that you honor Dale’s memory by planting a tree and spending time with your loved ones.
