Health and mental health professionals across northwestern Ontario are taking part in a three-day conference in Kenora.
It’s called Roots to Thrive.
Darcia Curtis is one of the co-chairs and says they are gathered to talk not only about mental health, but substance abuse as well.
“It’s just how we can come together and work together and to take care of our communities and each other,” says Curtis.
“Although it is focused on mental health, we are really looking at all the traditional teachings and our western teachings and how we can learn from both those ways of seeing.”
Curtis says the Network is made up of a group of medical and mental health professionals right across the region.
“We recently changed our name and re-branded because previously we were very focused in the mental health area, but we recognized that multiple sectors work together to ensure the well-being and health in our communities.”
Delegates have come Thunder Bay, Fort Frances, Dryden and Kenora.
The conference is being put on by the Kenora Rainy River District Health Partners Network.
