For a third year in a row, a conference focusing on drug, substance abuse and other trauma recovery is coming to Kenora.
Empower 2 Recover will be taking place in early September.
Jay Barnard has been hosting similar events right across the country and says they seem to be working.
“We’re really focusing on community connection, and collaboration this year, which I think is truly what we need to be focusing on,” says Barnard.
“We don’t need to be focusing on that fourth ‘C’ which is competing. We don’t need to be competing for help for people. People just need help today from love, kindness, compassion side of things.”
Barnard adds that agencies in the community have really got on board this year.
“The community is really coming together which is really beautiful to see this year, and all the other years, but this year I really feel it’s coming to together for recovery, which is really nice. And then we have a bunch of local speakers coming in.”
Empower 2 Recover started as a small Kenora-based conference but has expanded into communities right across Canada.
