The Kenora Catholic District School Board will operate with a small surplus next year.

The 2025-2026 budget was presented Tuesday night to trustees.

Superintendent of Business Services Alison Smith says even though they just got the funding numbers from the province, they were able to pull the budget together fairly quickly.

“Our budget preparation actually starts back in January when we start looking at the upcoming school year,” explains Smith.

“Given that there weren’t significant changes when they did the funding announcement, we were able to pull it together and bring it forward.”

Smith adds they were compliant in all aspects of the budget, according to provincial legislation.

“We had a really idea of what our projected enrolment was going to be.  We knew what our staffing complement was going to be.  So, once you have your salary and benefits all budgeted out and everything else, and you realize the funding is pretty status quo, you’re able to work through it quite quickly.”

The budget calls for almost $34.662 million dollars in spending, which is up about $600,000 from last year.

Expenses will come in at $34.642 million.

The spending includes $3.13 million for administration and $1.358 million for transportation.

Overall, the KCDSB is project a surplus of $20,666.

The Catholic School Board has 4 schools in Kenora and one in Red Lake.
