Ontario’s northwest region is currently tracking 22 active wildfires, and no new fires were reported Monday evening.

Officials say most fires are being held, are under control, or are being observed, but two fires remain uncontrolled.

Red Lake Fire 12, burning near Sandy Lake and Deer Lake First Nations, now spans 194,127 hectares and remains uncontrolled.

Rainfall from Monday has eased fire behaviour, allowing crews to focus on the fire’s southern and eastern perimeters with support from 24 crews and 18 helicopters, including four heavy-lift units.

Sioux Lookout Fire 18, near Cat Lake First Nation, covers 23,648 hectares with minimal fire activity.

Fire management teams continue to monitor the situation closely, particularly for any holdover fires as conditions slowly dry.

Rain and cooler weather have lowered fire activity, and officials say fire hazard remains low for most of the region.
