The second phase of twinning the Trans-Canada Highway west of Kenora is expected to begin later this year.
That’s according to Kenora-Rainy River MPP Greg Rickford.
He says it’s taken some time to get ready for the next stage of construction.
“I am confident that later this fall, you see some activity out there for the next segment and by next spring serious road construction will be underway,” says Rickford.
He adds that it’s taking longer than expected to start phase 2 of the twinning.
“We would have liked for construction and all the preparatory work to begin this past spring, but there are some very good reasons why it hasn’t begun, and I think in the end, it will be a net benefit as we try to mobilize training center capacity.”
The first stretch of the twinning of Highway 17, a 6.5-kilometer section east of the Manitoba border was completed last year.
The next section will be from Highway 673 to the Rush Bay Road.
