Sioux Lookout youth helps name new federal police horse

A youth from Sioux Lookout has been selected as one of the winners of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police’s 2025 Name the Foal contest.

The contest provides an opportunity for Canadian kids aged 14 years old and younger to submit names for new RCMP’s horse foals.

This year, over 1,600 entries were received.

This year’s winning names were given to nine new foals born recently at the RCMP’s horse breeding farm in Pakenham, Ontario.

The list of winners includes:

  1. Badge – Sam, age 10, Port Hood, Nova Scotia
  2. Baffin – Kai, age seven, Iqaluit, Nunavut
  3. Balmoral – Chosen by Musical Ride staff
  4. Beckett – Paisley, age four, Burton, New Brunswick
  5. Bellamy – Kindergarten class of Dorchester Consolidated School, New Brunswick (school class winner)
  6. Binesi – Joshua, age 12, Cantley, Quebec
  7. Bison – Forrest, age 12, Sioux Lookout, Ontario
  8. Boreal – Keegan, age six, Lloydminster, Alberta
  9. Bravo – Megan, age seven, Ottawa, Ontario

Contest winners will receive a 2025 Musical Ride horseshoe, a picture of the horse they named, and a certificate signed by RCMP Commissioner Mike Duheme.
