It is with deep sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of Avalee, at the young age of thirteen (13) years old.

Avalee was a bright and creative soul whose warmth and light touched the lives of all who knew her. She had a deep love for art, the outdoors, her cherished pets, and travelling alongside her siblings and her beloved Kookum Shirley Oustan. Avalee had recently graduated from grade eight at the David Kejick School, which she was filled with great excitement and hope, as she looked forward to beginning Hight School this fall in September with her bestie T.J. (Tyler Greene).

She was predeceased by her paternal great Kookum Betty Ann, Gloria Hyde, and her paternal Great Shoomis Sam Oustan. She is also predeceased by her maternal Great Grandmother, Bertha Paypompee, Great Grandfather, Sam Paypompee and maternal Great Grandmother, Shelley Locklin; Great aunties, Jane, Dorothy, Sophie, and Bernice; Grand uncles, Stan, Charlie, and William.

Avalee’s beautiful spirit will be dearly missed, and is survived by her mother, Leila Paypompee, her daddy, Jordan Oustan, and biological father, Dalton Tallman; Siblings, Stetson (“Stetty”), Ada, Arizona, Reese, Lacey, Mason, Dalton Jr.; Shoomis, Leroy Paypompee; Kookum’s, Shirley Oustan and Carla Mandamin, John “Papa Pootoo”. Grand aunties , Joann Guendoze and Sheila Jack; Aunties, Josephine Paypompee (George), Desirae Paypompee (Thunder); Uncles, Steve (Xavier and Miigwan), Brendan Bird, Quineena, Joey, Cami, LJ, Kisha Paypompee; Best friend Tyler Greene, her favourite Barb Holmstrom and numerous cousins, friends and extended family.

Avalee’s presence, spirit, and laughter will be forever cherished and remembered by all who knew and loved her. Tooki Looki – Ava was like a mother hen, jingle dress dancer who dreamed of being a fancy show dancer, loved pow-wows and loved to dance. Strong, happy, beautiful, and full of life.

The family offers heart felt gratitude and sincere thanks to Dr. L. Synder, Nurse Michael, Paramedics, Iskatewizaagegan No. 39 Independent First Nations Health and Prevention staff, Chief and Council, Lake of the Woods District Hospital Dr.’s, Nurses and medical team, and also to all those who responded to the call. Also, those who provided their love, compassionate care and ongoing support to the families during this difficult time.

The wake service will begin on Tuesday, July 8, 2025 at 11:00 am, with the Funeral Services to follow on Wednesday, July 9, 2025 at the David Kejick School in Iskatewizaagegan No. 39 Independent First Nation. The funeral will be officiated by Elders, Mary-Jane and Daniel. It is encouraged for the girls and women to wear their traditional ribbon skirts.
