Fire officials have confirmed seven new wildfires in Northwestern Ontario as of Monday evening, bringing the regional total to 54 active fires.

The latest starts, Red Lake 103 to 109, are located around Goose Lake, Storey Lake, and Lund Lake. Most are small—0.1 to 0.3 hectares—but five of the seven are not yet under control.

Of the 54 active fires, 17 are not under control, 4 are being held, 6 are under control, and 27 are being observed. The fire danger remains high across parts of the Red Lake and Kenora sectors, including areas near Wabigoon Lake and Slate Falls Nation.

Crews continue to focus significant resources on Red Lake 62 near Pikangikum First Nation. That fire remains not under control at 31,367 hectares. Ten crews are working both the north and southeastern perimeters using hose lines, bulldozers, and waterbombers.

A travel ban remains in effect for the Red Lake 62 area under an emergency order issued July 12. It restricts travel on roads, trails, waterways, and airspace unless authorized by the Ministry of Natural Resources.

Red Lake 12, the largest wildfire in the region at over 195,000 hectares, continues to be monitored near Deer Lake and Sandy Lake First Nations.

Other notable fires include Red Lake 40 near North Spirit Lake and Red Lake 67 near McDowell Lake, both still out of control but with structural protections in place.
