It’s going to cost another $700,000 to finish of the Central Park project.

So far it includes an outdoor rink and a playground area.

Director of Economic Development and Tourism Stace Gander says the extra money is to do some landscaping and other minor work at the new community club.

“The scope work included in that includes grading, paving the parking area, proper drainage, installation of a shade structure, lighting enhancements, and the supply and installation of trees and sods, and the installation of some benches,” Gander told Kenora city council recently.

Gander adds the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund will cover more than half of the costs.

“Finish basically the greenspace elements of the community club area.  We did do an application to NOHFC (Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation).  We were successful in receiving that funding in the amount of $490,000 and to be able to get at that, the city would have to make a commitment of $166,000.”

In all, the city will have to contribute another $212,000 which includes $46,000, which will help complete of the construction of the new outdoor rink and community club.
