A couple of electricity generating projects are being proposed for the City of Dryden.
Atura Power, which is a division of Ontario Power Generation, says it looking at a solar power and a battery storage project.
Project manager Ryan Dube says the solar power project would be co-located on Lyle Road with the battery storage project, but there is no guarantee they will be given the green light.
“The Buffalo Ranch Solar would be capable of generating up to 75 megawatts of electricity,” Dube told Dryden city council recently during a presentation of the projects.
“But based on the way the IESO (Independent Electricity System Operator) works, it could be either project, both projects, or neither project, depending on the outcome of the competitive process.”
Dube says the Battery Energy Storage System project would also be capable of generating a lot of electricity.
“The Buffalo Ranch Battery Energy Storage System would be capable of providing 200 megawatts of power for storage, for up to 8 hours. So that’s 1600 megawatts hours of storage, discharged over an 8-hour period.”
Dube says the projects would be located within the City of Dryden limits, so it needs resolutions of support from city council.
