The Municipality of Sioux Lookout is getting $200,000 to implement its Pathways to Prevention project.

The money comes from Intact Insurance’s Municipal Climate Resiliency program.

In total the insurance company is making $3.1 million available this year for communities across Canada.

Sioux Lookout’s program will assist local homeowners to complete a Fire Smart assessment and help reduce the risk of wildfires in the municipality.

Sioux Lookout Fire Chief, Jeremy Funk is excited to put these new funds to work.

“Assisting local homeowners with completing a FireSmart assessment is just the first step in reducing wildfire risks in the community. Education is a critical element,” states Funk.

‘”Having the equipment to deal with emergencies when they happen, like the specialized wildfire response unit and suppression equipment this grant from Intact will provide, is the next step in reducing property loss from wildfires.”

The project implementation will begin this week at the 43rd Home, Craft and Trade Show.
